Welcome to the Guarantee Fund website
The Guarantee Fund for financial institutions protects your assets.
It intervenes if an affiliated institution is no longer able to meet its commitments.
It then reimburses your unavailable assets.
The Guarantee Fund, in collaboration with the Resolution Fund, contributes to the financial stability and security in Belgium.

Which institutions are affiliated to the Guarantee Fund?

  • Credit institutions:
    • Credit institutions under Belgian law;
    • Branches of credit institutions in countries outside the European Economic Area.
  • Stockbroking firms under Belgian law;
  • Branch 21 life insurance companies.

What assets are protected?

  • Bank deposits (current account, savings, term …) as well as cash certificates;
  • Held funds pending allocation to the acquisition of financial instruments or pending restitution;
  • Life insurance contracts with guaranteed return (branch 21) subject to Belgian law.

Who is entitled to a refund?

  • For credit institutions and stockbroking firms:
    • Any natural person, association, non-profit organization, company holding protected assets.
  • For insurance companies:
    • Any natural person, association, non-profit organization, or company that has taken out a life insurance with guaranteed return (branch 21) subject to Belgian law.

What to do in case of bankruptcy?

  • From a credit institution or a stockbroking firm:
    • Have a valid bank account with another credit institution;
    • Communicate this account number to the Guarantee Fund via MyMinfin.
  • From an insurance company:
    • File a claim via MyMinfin or via the paper form
